IRENE SARAH (RENEE) SHNIDER Died peacefully at Victoria General Hospital July 11, 2004. Left to mourn are her loving husband Dr. Maurice Shnider; her daughter Janet (David) Brett; and her sons, David (Debbie) and Lee; grandchildren, Molly Brett and Brett Shnider, Andrea (Russell) Sward and Vincent Howie; and her sister Betty Fay of Bournemouth. Renee was born in Bournemouth, England September 23, 1923. She served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) for three years during the Second World War. Following their marriage in England in 1945, Renee and Maurice began married life in Canada in 1946. She will be remembered for her beauty and charming personality. She took pleasure in preparing elegant dinners for her family and guests and after her older children left home, their classmates were always welcome. Renee served as a leader for the Girl Guides and Brownies and she was a dedicated volunteer for the Misericordia and Victoria Hospitals. The family are appreciative of the care of Dr. David Young and Dr. Michael Dillon and the nursing and support staff of Unit 4 South. Funeral services were held at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue July 13 with Cantor Anibal Mass officiating. Interment followed at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Vincent Howie, Brett Shnider, Jack Neumann, Seymour Neumann, Scott Margolis and Brent Hurtig. If desired donations can be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice.
